Julia Barry is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Somatic Experiencing Practitioner® (SEP), and EMDRIA Certified Practitioner based in Cambridge, MA, serving the Greater Boston area. She is one of very few Boston-area therapists holding triple credentials in EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and psychodynamic attachment therapy. Julia provides psychotherapy to adult individuals, couples, families, and mother/infant pairs, utilizing an integrative approach that draws on psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing®, clinical hypnosis, and mindfulness techniques.
Julia completed her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University and her Bachelor of Arts at Sarah Lawrence College in New York. She trained for two years at the Women's Clinic and Family Counseling Center in Los Angeles, working with adult individuals and couples under supervision in psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and Somatic Experiencing® modalities. She also received training at the Well Baby Center, where she led Mindful Parenting Groups and provided psychotherapy to mother/infant pairs with an emphasis on psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches.
Julia specializes in the treatment of single-event trauma, complex trauma, dissociation, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, mother/infant bonding, relationship and intimacy issues, sex and sexuality, and personal growth. She is an Approved EMDRIA Consultant and serves as an Assistant in the Somatic Experiencing Professional Training. She is also a 500-hour Certified Yoga Works Teacher and has received training in clinical hypnosis and interpersonal neurobiology. Julia's practice is LGBTQIA affirmative.
