Tessamarie Capitolo is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Teaching Member of both Sandplay Therapists of America and the International Society for Sandplay Therapy. She maintains a private practice in San Rafael, California, and co-founded the Child Therapy Institute of Marin with her husband David Capitolo.
Capitolo has taught sandplay nationally and internationally and has published extensively in the Journal of Sandplay Therapy. Her articles include explorations of the dark feminine, chaos theory in the sandplay process, shadow work, and the inter/intrapersonal racial unconscious. She is the author of 'The Bumpy Road to Redemption' (2021).
Her work in racial awareness, including her development of the Racial Awareness Inventory, represents a significant contribution to the integration of social justice concerns within the Jungian sandplay tradition.
