Harriet Friedman is a Jungian analyst and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who stands as one of the founding figures of sandplay therapy in America. Inspired by her study with Dora Kalff, the originator of sandplay therapy, Friedman became a founding member of Sandplay Therapists of America and a member of the International Society for Sandplay Therapy.

Friedman co-authored, with Rie Rogers Mitchell, several foundational texts in the field: 'Sandplay: Past, Present and Future' (Routledge, 1994), 'Supervision of Sandplay Therapy' (Routledge, 2007), and 'Sandplay Wisdom: Understanding Sandplay Therapy' (Routledge, 2021). These works have shaped the theoretical and supervisory frameworks used by sandplay therapists worldwide.

In 2016, Friedman received the Kalff-Bradway Award, the highest honor in the sandplay therapy community, recognizing her decades of contributions to the field.
