David Capitolo is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Teaching Member of both Sandplay Therapists of America and the International Society for Sandplay Therapy. He maintains clinical practices in San Rafael and San Francisco, California, working with children, adolescents, and adults.

Capitolo is a founding member and Treasurer of the Northern California Regional Sandplay Society. Together with his wife Tessamarie Capitolo, he co-founded the Child Therapy Institute of Marin, a nonprofit providing sandplay-based therapy to a diverse population in the Bay Area.

His particular interests include fathering, initiation into manhood rituals, and ethnocultural perspectives in sandplay therapy. He has published in the Journal of Sandplay Therapy and has contributed significantly to discussions of the masculine in sandplay therapy, with deep roots in Jungian symbolic work.
