Paul Attinello is a Jungian psychoanalyst in private practice in Newcastle upon Tyne who brings an unusual breadth of intellectual formation to his clinical work. He holds a PhD in Systematic Musicology from the University of California, Los Angeles (1997) and spent a distinguished career as a Senior Lecturer in Music at Newcastle University before retiring from academia. During his years as a scholar, he published in the Journal of Musicological Research, Musik-Konzepte, and numerous essay collections, and taught at the University of Hong Kong and as a guest professor at UCLA.
Attinello subsequently trained as an analyst at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, graduating as a Diplomate Analyst in 2019. He is a member of the IAAP and the International Association of Jungian Studies (IAJS), and continues to teach at the Jung Institute's English-language program as well as for the Centre for Applied Jungian Studies in Cape Town. His clinical interests include individuation, dreams, and the artistic imagination, and he has particular skill in working with individuals concerned about aging, illness, isolation, creativity, productivity, and finding meaning. He offers sessions both in-person in Newcastle and online.
