Marian Thompson

Marian W. Thompson, LCSW, SEP is a somatic therapist and relationship counselor based in Austin, TX, where she has lived since 2008. A native Texan born and raised in Houston, she earned her B.S. in Sociology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. After graduation, she spent several years traveling throughout Africa and South America, including a year in Ecuador teaching English — where she became fluent in Spanish — before settling in New York City for five years. There she worked briefly in publishing before earning her Master's Degree in Social Work from Hunter College at the City University of New York (CUNY).

With 18 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marian has worked across diverse settings including primary health care clinics, mental health clinics, and community-based organizations before transitioning to private practice. She holds advanced certifications in Somatic Experiencing® (completed 2018–2021) and Emotionally Focused Therapy, both of which she describes as game-changers professionally and personally. Since earning her Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) certificate, she has returned to trainings as a teaching assistant. She also completed Internal Family Systems training with Dick Schwartz in 2018 and is currently enrolled in The Buehler Institute Comprehensive Sexology Program.

Marian is bilingual in English and Spanish and is sex-positive, welcoming clients of all orientations and lifestyles, including LGBTQ+, kink, and polyamorous individuals and couples. She specializes in helping trauma-aware adults bridge the gap between intellectual understanding of their patterns and actually feeling safe in their bodies. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her husband and two daughters, watching sci-fi and mystery TV, and learning French.
