Kari Elise Slinning

Kari Elise Slinning grew up in Norway and moved to Sweden in 1995. Before pursuing a career in psychotherapy, she worked as a classical musician — a violinist and orchestra conductor — in professional symphony orchestras across Scandinavia. She began her gestalt therapy training in 2000 and graduated in 2006 from Gestalt-Akademin i Skandinavien, completing her Master's thesis titled 'Att tillfriska från Bulimia Nervosa' (Recovering from Bulimia Nervosa), a phenomenological study based on interviews with people about their recovery process from eating disorders.

From 2008 to 2015, Kari served as CEO of Frisk & Fri – Riksföreningen mot ätstörningar, Sweden's national organization working with prevention and support for those affected by eating disorders and their families. She completed her training in the trauma therapy method Somatic Experiencing (SE) in Norway in 2012, and subsequently transitioned to full-time private practice. She now works as a private practitioner at Terapicentrum, located at Hornstull in Stockholm.

In 2013, Kari co-founded the Somatic Experiencing Föreningen Sverige (Swedish Somatic Experiencing Association). She served as a board member of the European Association for Somatic Experiencing (EASE) from 2015 to 2023, including as board chair from 2017 to 2022. Since 2025, she has been teaching the Somatic Experiencing method internationally, with teaching engagements in Poland, Croatia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Ireland, India, South Africa, and Ukraine/Belarus.

Kari is an authorized gestalt therapist and member of Sveriges Auktoriserade Gestaltterapeuter (SAG), committing to their ethical guidelines. She has previously taught on Gestalt-Akademin's therapist training program and provided supervision for gestalt therapy students. She lives in Täby, near Stockholm, with her youngest daughter and husband, and is a mother of three.
