David Levit

David Levit is a clinical psychologist in practice in Amherst, Massachusetts since 1989, bringing over 37 years of clinical experience. He works with a wide range of people, from college-aged through older adults, addressing issues including negative or vulnerable self-image, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, losses, and life transitions. He strives to provide a warm, safe, collaborative, and open atmosphere to help people find relief from suffering and enhanced vital engagement in living.

Dr. Levit is guided by a psychodynamic perspective with a contemporary relational orientation, offering both psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, and integrating his background in Somatic Experiencing. He holds advanced Board Certification in Clinical Psychology and Psychoanalysis from the American Board of Professional Psychology. He is widely regarded as a leading voice bridging Somatic Experiencing and psychoanalysis in the US, having published multiple peer-reviewed papers in Psychoanalytic Dialogues and teaching at Austen Riggs Center.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Levit holds several faculty positions, including Faculty and Supervising Analyst at the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis, and Instructor in Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He also provides consultation to colleagues and offers training for clinicians.
