About

Dave Berger, MFT, PT, MA, SEP, BASE-P is a somatic psychotherapist, physical therapist, and bodyworker with 45 years of clinical experience. He began his professional direction by developing his own undergraduate curriculum, Somatopsychology, at the University of Maryland. He holds graduate degrees in physical therapy from Stanford University and somatic psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. He is senior international faculty with the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute, teaching all levels of SE training, and is one of only a few practitioners authorized by Dr. Peter Levine to teach SE master classes as part of Dr. Levine's initial legacy faculty.

Dave is the founder of BASE™: Relational Bodywork and Somatic Education, a training program for trauma practitioners that integrates his decades of work in behavioral and physical health. He is also a Rosen Method Bodywork Practitioner. As a physical therapist, he is trained in craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, myofascial release, joint mobilization, and muscle energy technique, and incorporates somatics approaches such as Rosen Method, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, and Authentic Movement.

In his clinical psychotherapy work, Dave draws on family systems, psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychobiology, and other psychotherapeutic theories, working along an integrative continuum that addresses the relationship between physiology, body usage, psychology, and emotions. He works with individuals and couples healing from traumatic injuries and accidents, anxiety, back and neck pain, PTSD, headaches, panic attacks, and chronic pain. His approach may include talk therapy, body awareness and relaxation, trauma renegotiation, hands-on interventions, movement, and exercise.
