About

Loch Kelly, M.Div., LCSW, is an award-winning author, meditation teacher, psychotherapist, and founder of the 501(c)(3) non-profit, Effortless Mindfulness Institute. His teachings synthesize ancient wisdom practices, neuroscience, and contemporary psychology. Loch is dedicated to relieving suffering at its root and supporting people to live from their basic goodness. He is known for his warm sense of humor and his trust that awakening is the next natural stage of development. He teaches advanced, yet simple, nondual pointers and direct methods of nondual mindfulness, informed by psychology and social justice.

Loch offers a unique experiential teaching style to assist in the recognition, realization, and full embodiment of our true nature. He teaches in an all-inclusive style of dialogue and inquiry, starting with the view that awakeness, wisdom, and love are already inherent within each of us. He has been fortunate to be trained by some of the greatest meditation teachers of our generation, and his teachings are based in the earliest nondual wisdom traditions, modern science, and psychotherapy. He served on the New York Insight Teachers Council, co-taught with Dick Schwartz and Dan Siegel, and is affiliated with Adyashanti.

As a licensed psychotherapist, Loch has been teaching seminars, supervising clinicians, and practicing awareness psychotherapy in NYC for 30 years. He is a graduate of Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary, and was awarded a fellowship to study forms of nondual meditation in Sri Lanka, India, and Nepal beginning in 1981. He has also collaborated with neuroscientists at Yale, UPenn, and NYU in the study of how awareness training can enhance compassion and wellbeing.

Clinical Orientation

Created a unique synthesis of IFS parts work with nondual contemplative traditions (Dzogchen, Mahamudra) and Somatic Experiencing. His Effortless Mindfulness approach integrates awake awareness, embodiment, and parts work into a transpersonal depth framework. Co-teaches with Dick Schwartz — one of the few people Schwartz collaborates with repeatedly on the spiritual dimensions of Self.
