About
Mark Dean is a senior Jungian Analyst and president of the Philadelphia Association of Jungian Analysts. He holds both an MFA and credentials as a Jungian analyst and board-certified art therapist, bringing a rare artist-analyst dual perspective to his practice. He is an instructor at both the Philadelphia Jung Institute and the C. G. Jung Institute Analyst Training Program of Pittsburgh.
His core focus in analytic work is involved with imagistic phenomena as the basis for analytic process. He understands all aspects of experience as having intricate relationships in the manner of a picture — an imagistic logic and coherent meaning in which one's life is embedded. He works with dreams as well as all aspects of lived experience.
Mark Dean is a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Award for Artistic Excellence and has twice received the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts Award. He currently works virtually, providing analysis, analytic case consultation, and supervision for analytic training candidates. He offers an initial meeting free of charge for prospective clients to discuss analysis and determine whether working together feels like a good fit.
Clinical Orientation
Works within a verbal analytic framework while incorporating dreams, imagery, and artwork to understand clients' psychological experiences. Co-founded the Center for Psyche & the Arts to explore the intersection of analytical psychology and creative expression. His MFA background gives him a deep understanding of the artistic process as psychological transformation.
