About

Brian E. Kennedy-Arenivar is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in the Flatiron District of New York City. He is one of the few male depth-oriented sandplay therapists practicing in Manhattan, working from a specifically Jungian Analytical Psychology framework with over two decades of combined training and experience across outpatient clinics, schools, hospitals, and treatment centers.

Brian works across the lifespan with children (ages 10 and older), adolescents, adults, and couples. His therapeutic approach is rooted in Depth Psychology, drawing upon talk therapy, dream exploration, and Jungian Sandplay Therapy to help clients uncover deeper insights and connect with the wisdom of the unconscious. His areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues, men's issues, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, autism, grief and loss, substance use and recovery, work stress and burnout, and creative blocks.

Brian is a dedicated ally and experienced clinician for the LGBTQIA+ community, with specialized experience working with trans and gender-diverse individuals and families from a depth perspective. He is a proud member of WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health). His professional affiliations also include the Association for Sandplay Therapy, the New York Mental Health Counselors Association, the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis, and NAMI-New York City Metro.

Clinical Orientation

Practice rooted in depth psychology, particularly analytical psychology. Uses Jungian sandplay therapy alongside dream exploration and talk therapy to access the unconscious. Views the sandtray as a bridge between conscious and unconscious experience, allowing symbolic material to emerge and be worked with in the analytic relationship.
