James Scherer is a Zurich-trained Jungian analyst and lecturer in private practice in Hartford, Connecticut, who came to analytical psychology through an uncommon route. A native of northern Minnesota, he attended the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, graduating with a doctorate in dental surgery (DDS) in 1967. His subsequent turn toward the life of the psyche led him to the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, where he earned his Diploma in Analytical Psychology in 1986 after years of intensive training and personal analysis.

Since receiving his diploma, Scherer has maintained a private analytic practice in Hartford and has become a central figure in the Connecticut Jungian community. For many years he has conducted seminars for the Connecticut Association for Jungian Psychology (CAJP), serving as program chairperson. His Saturday morning seminar series, A Study of C.G. Jung's The Red Book, ran for over two years and drew dedicated students of Jung's foundational visionary text.

Scherer brings a grounded, no-nonsense sensibility to his analytic work, shaped by his Minnesota roots and scientific training. His friendship with the poet Robert Bly and his deep engagement with Jung's original writings give his practice a particular emphasis on myth, poetry, and the masculine psyche. As one of the very few IAAP-certified analysts serving the Hartford metro area, he fills a critical role for individuals in central Connecticut seeking authentic Jungian analysis.
