The Odyssey 16.40–43
So saying, he took from him the spear of bronze, and Telemachus went in and passed over the stone threshold. As he drew near, his father, Odysseus, rose from his seat and gave him place, but Telemachus on his part checked him, and said:
“Be seated, stranger, and we shall find a seat elsewhere
ὣς ἄρα φωνήσας οἱ ἐδέξατο χάλκεον ἔγχος·
αὐτὰρ ὅ γʼ εἴσω ἴεν καὶ ὑπέρβη λάϊνον οὐδόν.
τῷ δʼ ἕδρης ἐπιόντι πατὴρ ὑπόειξεν Ὀδυσσεύς·
Τηλέμαχος δʼ ἑτέρωθεν ἐρήτυε φώνησέν τε·
