David L. Miller
David Miller is the theologian of religion most closely aligned with the archetypal-psychology movement James Hillman founded. His The New Polytheism (1974, revised 1981) argued that the return of the gods — not the return of God — is the psychological reality underneath the late-modern condition, and that a polytheistic imagination is the only imagination capacious enough to meet a plural psyche without pathologizing its plurality.
Miller works at the intersection of depth psychology, classical philology, and Christian theology. He reads the gods as archetypal patterns, the mythologems as psychological structures, and monotheism as one configuration of the soul among several. His contribution to the Seba lineage is the theological articulation of polytheistic-psychology — the view the graph attributes jointly to him and james-hillman.
