About

Silver Hill Hospital, a not-for-profit psychiatric hospital set on forty-four acres in New Canaan, Connecticut, launched the Triumph Program in 2023 as a dedicated transitional living program for adults with severe trauma and dissociative disorders. The program employs a tri-phasic treatment approach that begins with stabilization of post-traumatic and dissociative symptoms while simultaneously addressing comorbid conditions including mood disorders, anxiety, disordered eating, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, substance use, and self-harm. Treatment integrates dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive processing therapy, psychodrama, art therapy, and mindful movement within an overarching psychodynamic framework. Each patient is housed in a single room to ensure a protected therapeutic environment, particularly important for individuals struggling with nightmares, hypervigilance, and difficulty feeling safe. The program was developed and is directed by Emily E. Haas, MD, an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of complex trauma and dissociative disorders. Silver Hill's residential setting provides the extended duration and relational consistency that complex trauma recovery typically requires.

Depth Orientation

The Triumph Program at Silver Hill is built on a tri-phasic approach to trauma treatment—stabilization, processing, and integration—rooted in the consensus model for complex trauma articulated by Judith Herman and the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. The program operates from a psychodynamic foundation while incorporating skills-based therapies, reflecting an understanding that dissociative and post-traumatic symptoms require both relational depth and structured intervention. Each patient receives a private room, acknowledging the somatic and interpersonal vulnerabilities inherent in trauma recovery.
