About

Scott Shannon, M.D., ABIHM, is a psychiatrist in Fort Collins, Colorado, whose four-decade career spans holistic medicine, integrative psychiatry, and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. He received his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine and completed residency training at a Columbia-affiliated program in New York, with additional study in cross-cultural psychiatry at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Shannon has been involved in holistic medicine since joining the American Holistic Medical Association in 1978 and published the first textbook on integrative mental health in 2001, authoring four textbooks in total. He is a founding member of the Psychedelic Research and Training Institute and serves as a site principal investigator and therapist for the Phase 3 clinical trial of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD sponsored by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies. Notably, Dr. Shannon worked with MDMA legally in his clinical practice before the DEA scheduled it in 1985, providing him with a historical perspective on psychedelic medicine that few living practitioners possess. In 2010, he founded Wholeness Center, described as the largest integrative mental health center in the United States, offering cross-disciplinary evaluation and care with sixteen professionals across ten disciplines. His current clinical work includes ketamine-assisted psychotherapy alongside his ongoing MAPS research involvement.
