Hans van Wechem

Hans van Wechem is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist with over thirty years of experience in the psychiatric field, maintaining a private practice in Amsterdam since 2003. He holds BIG registration as both psychiatrist and psychotherapist, NVRG registration as a couples and family therapist, and VBP registration as a bonding psychotherapist. His clinical work centers on early childhood trauma and attachment disorders, areas in which he has developed considerable expertise across decades of practice. In 2022, van Wechem co-founded the Experiential Training Institute with clinical psychologist Jeanine Souren, having previously served as Medical Director at Field Trip Health in Amsterdam. The institute trains mental health professionals in the responsible therapeutic use of psilocybin-containing truffles, which are legal in the Netherlands. Through this work, van Wechem occupies a distinctive position at the intersection of established psychiatric practice and the emerging field of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, bringing rigorous clinical standards to a rapidly developing domain.
