About

Bruce Tobin is a clinical psychologist and the founder and chair of TheraPsil, a Canadian nonprofit coalition of healthcare professionals dedicated to advancing therapeutic access to psilocybin. He received his doctorate in philosophy of psychology from the University of Washington in 1983 and has maintained a private psychotherapy practice for thirty-five years, with an additional twenty years of work alongside First Nations communities in British Columbia specializing in anxiety, depression, and emotional trauma. Tobin founded TheraPsil in 2019 after a terminally ill client requested psychedelic therapy, and the organization has since become the primary advocacy body for psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy in Canada. His efforts contributed to Health Canada's first approvals of Section 56 exemptions for psilocybin therapy and the expansion of the Special Access Program to include psilocybin for end-of-life distress and treatment-resistant depression. TheraPsil has trained over 130 healthcare practitioners in psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy protocols. Tobin's work represents a convergence of decades of clinical experience with systematic advocacy for legal access to psychedelic-assisted treatment within Canada's regulatory framework.
