About
Sherry Salman is a Jungian psychoanalyst, author, and educator based in the Hudson Valley of New York, whose work centers on the role of imagination in postmodern culture and psychological life. She received her B.A. from Vassar College and her Ph.D. in neuropsychology from the City University of New York, conducted research in psychosomatic medicine, and completed training as a Jungian analyst in 1985. Her unique grounding in both neuroscience and depth psychology gives her work a distinctive rigor and breadth.
Salman was a founding member and the first president of the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association, a nonprofit educational community devoted to training psychoanalysts and promoting the creative understanding and applications of psychology across professional, cultural, and scientific domains. She has been a teacher, lecturer, and author for over thirty years and has served as associate editor for three professional journals and as a consultant for the Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism.
Her book Dreams of Totality: Where We Are When There's Nothing at the Center (2013) explores the sensibility of wholeness as both poison and panacea for individuals and cultures. Her contributions appear in The Book of Symbols: Reflections on Archetypal Images (2010), The Cambridge Companion to Jung (2008), and Terror, Violence, and the Impulse to Destroy (2003). She has also published on persona and imagination in Spring Journal and Jung Journal. She sees individuals and couples in her private practice in Clinton Corners, New York.
