About
Sarah Berry Tschinkel is a Jungian psychoanalyst and licensed clinical social worker practicing in New York City. She earned her Master of Social Work from Smith College and completed her certification as a Jungian psychoanalyst through the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association (JPA) in 2015, following more than six years of intensive analytic training. She is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis and the International Association for Jungian Studies.
Berry Tschinkel's clinical practice encompasses individual adult analysis, couples counseling, and adolescent therapy. She was drawn to the Jungian tradition because of its emphasis on imagination as a therapeutic instrument, and her analytic work explores the instincts, shadow dimensions, and cognitive functions of the psyche. Her approach integrates depth-psychological inquiry with the creative and imaginative resources of the analysand.
Before entering the field of psychoanalysis, Berry Tschinkel had a distinguished career in experimental theater, having trained at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts beginning in 1979 and appearing in notable film and theater productions. This artistic background informs her clinical sensibility and her scholarly interest in the contributions of women to the history of analytical psychology. She has published in the Journal of Analytical Psychology and has created a one-woman theatrical performance that brings together Jungian principles, historical narrative, and dramatic art to illuminate the overlooked contributions of women to the field.
