About
Renos K. Papadopoulos is Professor in the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex, founder and Director of the Centre for Trauma, Asylum and Refugees, and a Training and Supervising Jungian Psychoanalyst practicing in London. He is a member of the Independent Group of Analytical Psychologists, an Honorary Clinical Psychologist and Systemic Family Psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic, and one of the most internationally recognized figures working at the intersection of Jungian psychology, forced migration, and trauma studies. His work with refugees and survivors of political violence spans decades and multiple continents, conducted in his capacity as a consultant to the United Nations and other humanitarian organizations.
Papadopoulos holds a PhD and has served as Course Director of the MA and PhD programme in Refugee Care at the University of Essex, training generations of clinicians and researchers in psychosocial approaches to displacement. He edited the journal Harvest: International Journal for Jungian Studies for fourteen years and subsequently founded and edited the International Journal of Jungian Studies. His publication record encompasses forty-one journal articles, seventeen books, and fifty-two book chapters, translated into eighteen languages. Among his most significant works are Involuntary Dislocation: Home, Trauma, Resilience, and Adversity-Activated Development (Routledge) and The Handbook of Jungian Psychology: Theory, Practice and Applications.
His contributions have been recognized with a lifetime achievement award from the European Family Therapy Association, the C.G. Jung 2022 Award from the International Association for Jungian Studies, the University of Essex Best International Research Impact award, and a Fellowship of the British Psychological Society conferred in December 2023. He is not currently accepting new clients, though he continues his academic, supervisory, and consultancy work.
