About
Murray Stein, Ph.D., MDiv, is one of the most influential living Jungian analysts, holding a Diploma in Analytical Psychology from the C.G. Jung Institute Zurich and certification as a Swiss Psychotherapist. He served as President of the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP) and of ISAP Zurich, and is the founder of both the Chicago Society of Jungian Analysts and IRSJA. His book 'Jung's Map of the Soul' is required reading at multiple Jungian training programs worldwide, and his Collected Writings are being published in multiple volumes.
Stein is also a playwright and creative collaborator. Together with Henry Abramovitch, he co-wrote 'Eranos,' a play set in 1947 that dramatizes conversations among Carl Jung, Aniela Jaffé, Erich Neumann, Rabbi Leo Baeck, and Eranos founder Olga Fröbe-Kaptyn around the famous Round Table. He also co-wrote 'The Analyst and the Rabbi,' an imaginative reconstruction of the historic 1946 meeting between C.G. Jung and Rabbi Leo Baeck at the Savoy Hotel Baur en Ville in Zurich.
As a scholar, Stein has written extensively on core Jungian concepts including individuation, alchemy, and Jung's contributions to psychoanalysis. His recent book 'Jung and Alchemy: A Path to Individuation' presents six introductory lectures on Jung's alchemical writings, and Volume 10 of his Collected Writings addresses the relationship between psychology and society. He is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and speaks both English and German.
