About
Michael Escamilla, MD, is a psychiatrist and Jungian analyst. He earned his bachelor's degree from Harvard University and his medical degree from Southwestern Medical School at the University of Texas. He completed his psychiatry residency at the University of California, San Francisco, and a research fellowship with the American Psychiatric Association in psychiatric genetics. He completed training as a Jungian analyst at the C.G. Jung Institute Zurich (Kusnacht), receiving his diploma in 2013. He served as the Mary Weir Chair of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, was founding department chair of Psychiatry at Texas Tech Health Science Center in El Paso and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and the founding Director of the Center of Excellence in Neurosciences at Texas Tech. Named the first McMillan Scholar at the Frank N. McMillan Jr. Institute for Jungian Studies at the Jung Center Houston in 2015. He has published over 100 journal articles and authored 'Bleuler, Jung, & the Creation of the Schizophrenias' (Daimon Verlag, 2016). Currently adjunct professor at Rutgers University Department of Psychiatry and faculty associate since 2022. His research focuses on bipolar disorder and schizophrenia genetics in Latino populations with NIMH funding.
