About

Maria Lúcia Loredo Abreu Jorge is a psychologist and Jungian analyst affiliated with the Instituto Junguiano do Rio de Janeiro, a member society of the Associação Junguiana do Brasil (AJB). Her clinical and scholarly work centers on the intersection of psyche and soma within the framework of C.G. Jung's analytical psychology. She authored a monograph titled Mãe: corpo e alma em análise — considerações sobre o complexo materno (Mother: Body and Soul in Analysis — Considerations on the Maternal Complex), completed in 2013 under the supervision of Walter Fonseca Boechat. In this work, she examines the constellation of the archetype of the Great Mother in female patients across different life stages, drawing on Jung's concepts of archetypes, the collective unconscious, synchronicity, and the psychoid unconscious — the deep stratum of the psyche where psychic and somatic dimensions are indistinguishable. Through three clinical cases, she explores how the maternal archetype manifests in both the psychological and bodily experience of her analysands. Jorge maintains a private practice in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, where she continues her work integrating depth psychological theory with clinical practice.
