About

John R. White is a Jungian analyst and Licensed Professional Counselor based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Before training as a psychotherapist, he was a philosophy professor, and both philosophy in general and ethics in particular continue to inform his clinical work. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the International Academy of Philosophy in Liechtenstein (1993) and a Master's in mental health counseling from Franciscan University of Steubenville (2011). He is a trained psychoanalyst in the tradition of Carl Jung and a member of the Interregional Society of Jungian Analysts (IRSJA), from which he graduated in 2017.

He practices psychotherapy according to psychodynamic, classical Jungian, existential, and archetypal approaches, broadly within the tradition of depth psychology. He provides a safe, secure setting in which clients can discuss problems and concerns freely and openly, whether the focus is on specific immediate problems or long-term concerns. His aim is to help clients resolve difficulties while enhancing self-awareness, promoting personal autonomy, and clarifying the nature and value of feelings, hopes, and aspirations — a process that may also include spiritual and religious issues.

White works in a conversational style, offering empathy, understanding, humor, and insight. He works primarily with adult and elderly individuals, couples, and groups, and addresses a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, anger management, bipolar disorder, borderline personality, dissociative disorders, emotional disturbance, coping skills, and career counseling. He also periodically offers groups focused on dreams and their role in deepening self-knowledge.
