About
Joel A. Crichton is a Jungian psychoanalyst and psychotherapist based in Victoria, British Columbia, where he operates Windward Psychological. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting and a Master of Psychotherapy and Spirituality (MPS) from St. Stephen's College at the University of Alberta. He completed (or is completing) his Diploma in Analytical Psychology at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zürich, earning recognition as an IAAP-certified Jungian analyst. He is also a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC).
Crichton brings a decades-long career as a professional theatre and music artist and educator to his analytic work. He has performed with Edmonton's Rapid Fire Theatre since 2008 and developed educational programming such as Living with the Land, which shares knowledge about plants in Alberta's ecosystems and their traditional, medicinal, and ceremonial uses. His master's thesis, completed at the University of Alberta, explored depth psychological perspectives on games, settlers, and identity politics.
His clinical practice focuses on the intersection of spontaneity, improvisational processes in performance, and Jungian psychology. He works with clients navigating loss of meaning, creative blocks, and identity questions. He also hosts the podcast Windward, featuring conversational and philosophical discussions exploring the psychological dimensions of people's passions. His practice currently operates with a waitlist for new clients.
