About
Prof. He-Yong Shen is the foundational figure in Chinese Jungian psychology, serving as Dean of the Institute of Analytical Psychology at City University of Macau, where he is also Programme Coordinator and Professor of Applied Psychology. He holds a Doctor of Psychology and Master of Psychology from Nanjing Normal University, China, and has held professorships at South China Normal University, Fudan University (Distinguished Professor), and City University of Macau.
His career spans decades of international training and research. He served as a Senior Visiting Scholar at Southern Illinois University (1993–1994), a Fulbright Scholar (1996–1997), and conducted research and clinical practice at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, the Jungian Institute of San Francisco, the California Institute of Integral Studies, and the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland. He was certified by the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP) and the International Society for Sandplay Therapy (ISST), and is also qualified as a psychotherapist by the United States Sandplay Therapy Association (STA).
Prof. Shen is the founding president of the Chinese Federation for Analytical Psychology (CFAP) and the first president of the China Society for Analytical Psychology. He created the Garden of the Heart & Soul Charity Project, establishing 100 workstations in orphanages across mainland China. His research areas include psychoanalysis and Chinese culture, sandplay therapy, and dream work.
He is the author of numerous books including 'Jung and Analytical Psychology' (2006), 'Sandplay Therapy: Theory and Practice' (2006), 'Psychological Analysis: Understanding and Experience' (2004), and 'Chinese Cultural Psychology' (2001), among others. Under his leadership, the Institute of Analytical Psychology at City University of Macau has hosted international conferences and established partnerships with leading Jungian institutes worldwide.
