Galin McGowan

Galin McGowan, PhD, LMHC, is a certified Jungian Analyst and psychotherapist based in Sarasota, Florida, practicing since 2002 with over 20 years of experience in psychotherapy. She holds a Master's degree in traditional Counseling and Psychotherapy from the University of Colorado, with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy, which led her to incorporate the concept of 'Family Archetypes' into her clinical work and deepened her interest in the Analytical Psychology of C.G. Jung.

Her advanced training took her to the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland, where she obtained her Diploma in Analytical Psychology in 2002, earning recognition as a certified Jungian Analyst by the International Association of Analytical Psychology (IAAP). This rigorous training involved a four-to-eight-year academic program, personal analysis, training analysis, psychiatric internship, supervised clinical work, and a diploma dissertation — a credential held by approximately 3,000 analysts worldwide.

In addition to her work in psychology, McGowan holds a Baccalaureate degree in Geology and a Master's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. This grounding in the natural sciences informs her belief that connection to the natural world nourishes the soul, a perspective she integrates into her depth psychological work. She is President of the C.G. Jung Society of Sarasota and is one of very few IAAP-certified Jungian analysts on Florida's Gulf Coast.

Her practice addresses a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, mid-life and retirement transitions, relationship issues, grief and loss, spiritual searching, chronic pain, recovery support, family dynamics, and the pursuit of meaningful purpose and identity — particularly through the Jungian process of individuation in the second half of life.
