About

David G. Barton is a psychotherapist and former tenured professor at Northern New Mexico College, with additional teaching experience at Pacifica Graduate Institute and the College of Santa Fe. His psychotherapy practice in Santa Fe draws on the tradition of depth psychology — especially the Jungian tradition — as well as person-centered and somatic (body) psychology. He has more than 25 years of experience working with dreams, myths, and the unconscious.

In 1998, Barton founded The Salt Journal, a national magazine covering myth, psychology, and religion, which was published until 2002 and nominated by the Utne Reader as one of the premier alternative magazines in the United States. He served as founding editor of The Salt Journal and as Executive Director of The Salt Institute, a non-profit organization that sponsored workshops and conferences in myth, culture, psychology, and religion.

Barton is also an accomplished author and scholar with an eclectic background as an editor, writer, and specialist in depth psychology. In April 2020, the University of Pittsburgh Press published his full-length biography of Vaclav Havel, titled Unfinished Revolution. He has worked directly with notable figures in the field including James Hillman and Linda Leonard, and holds a PhD from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
