About

Christopher D. Cooper, MS, LP, NCPsyA, is a psychotherapist and Jungian analyst based in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. At heart a storyteller, he holds a deep appreciation for how narratives shape values, beliefs, and behaviors, and his work centers on helping people listen for the deeper story wanting to emerge — one that leads toward greater wholeness, freedom, and meaning.

He currently serves as President of the C.G. Jung Institute of New York, where he is also a faculty member and a training and supervising analyst. He is certified by the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP) and the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis (NAAP), and is a member of both the New York Association for Analytical Psychology (NYAAP) and the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts (IRSJA). He completed his graduate studies at Columbia University and his analytic training at the C.G. Jung Institute of New York.

Before becoming a psychoanalyst, Cooper worked in advertising, giving him first-hand experience with the pressures, ambitions, and emotional complexities of professional life. In his practice, he works with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and dissociation, as well as those seeking deeper meaning, creativity, and renewal. He also lectures and teaches on the effects of culture on behavior, cognition, and emotion.

His therapeutic style is warm, accepting, and supportive. Sessions engage with dreams, active imagination, art, sandplay, and other expressive modalities to build a bridge between conscious and unconscious aspects of the self. He offers both in-person sessions at his Midtown Manhattan office and online therapy via secure telehealth for those outside New York City. He is currently accepting new patients onto his waitlist only.
