Charles Asher

Charles Asher is a Certified Jungian Analyst and licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #24322) in private practice in Santa Rosa, CA, serving the broader Sonoma County and North Bay area. He trained at the C.G. Jung Institute in New York City and holds a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary (NYC), a Master of Arts in Psychology from the New School for Social Research (NYC), and a Doctor of Ministry in pastoral counseling from Andover Newton Theological Seminary. He is also licensed as a Research Psychoanalyst (RP 60) under the California Board of Psychology.

With over 40 years in private practice, Charles brings a rare integration of depth psychology and theology to his clinical work. He served for nearly eighteen years at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara as core faculty, department chair, and provost, training future therapists and academics. He has lectured and published on process theology and Jungian psychology, and is a member of the International Association of Analytical Psychologists and the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco.

Charles works with individuals and couples, drawing on Jungian analysis, depth psychology, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. He engages both conscious and unconscious material — including dreams — as sources of insight and transformation. His approach is interactive, interpersonal, and personalized, helping clients identify obstacles, examine past patterns, and open to new possibilities in their lives.

His areas of focus include anxiety, depression, relational issues, vocational uncertainty, grief and loss, spiritual development, and the integration of psychology and religion. As an ordained Episcopal priest and Benedictine Camaldolese Oblate, he brings a contemplative and pastoral dimension to his practice that is distinctive in the field.
