About
August J. Cwik is a clinical psychologist, hypnotherapist, and senior diplomate Jungian analyst who has practiced in the Chicago area for over thirty-five years. After studying chemistry as an undergraduate at the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle, he entered military service before redirecting his career toward psychology. He studied in the Dream and Sleep Lab at the University of Illinois under Rosalind Cartwright, then earned his PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, where he was part of the inaugural class. He interned at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, where he trained in hypnotherapy and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
Cwik received his Diploma in Analytical Psychology from the C.G. Jung Institute of Chicago in 1990 and has since become one of the institute's most influential figures. He served as Co-Director of Training of the Analyst Training Program in Clinical Supervision and Curriculum, Co-Director of the Clinical Training Program in Analytical Psychotherapy, and Senior Adjunct Faculty. He also teaches on the faculty of the Florida and Minnesota Seminars for the Interregional Society of Jungian Analysts and formerly held a position as Senior Adjunct Faculty at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology.
His scholarly contributions span analytic structure, supervision, alchemical imagery, active imagination, and dreams. He serves as an Assistant Editor for the Journal of Analytical Psychology, the field's leading peer-reviewed journal. He is a member of the Chicago Society of Jungian Analysts and the Interregional Society of Jungian Analysts. In recent years, Cwik has focused on the possibilities of virtual therapy, offering telehealth-based analysis and supervision via videoconferencing.
