About
Arlo Compaan is a training psychoanalyst, licensed clinical psychologist, and Diplomate Psychoanalyst in Analytical Psychology certified by the International Association for Analytical Psychology. He was initially trained in pastoral psychology, earning certification as a Fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and is a clinical member and approved supervisor of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists as well as a member of the American Psychological Association.
Compaan serves as the Director of Training for the C.G. Jung Institute of Chicago's Analytical Training Program and sits on the Institute's Board of Directors. He co-directs the Jungian Psychotherapy Program and is a member of the Chicago Society of Jungian Analysts. His clinical career spans over four decades of psychotherapeutic work, the latter two of which have been devoted to psychoanalysis.
His scholarly and clinical interests center on affect regulation, with particular attention to the dynamics of shame and shamelessness as they manifest in narcissistic structures. He lectures and conducts workshops on affect regulation, attachment dynamics, and their intersection with depth-psychological process. Compaan maintains practices in the Chicago Loop and in Frankfort, Illinois, and currently offers sessions via telehealth.
