About
Adrienne Margarian is a registered psychologist and Jungian psychoanalyst based in Sydney, Australia, with over twenty-four years of clinical experience. She holds a PhD in Psychoanalytic Studies, a Master of Arts (Honours) in Psychoanalytic Studies, a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology, and a Master of Arts in Art Therapy. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Jungian Analysts, and the International Association for Analytical Psychology, and serves as a Training Analyst with ANZSJA.
Margarian's clinical trajectory began in art therapy before deepening into psychology and Jungian analysis. Her work is grounded in the psychoanalytic tradition, employing long-term depth-psychological treatment to explore the unconscious motivations that shape conscious behavior. She conducts thorough psychological assessments to determine individualized treatment plans, addressing a broad spectrum of presenting concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, grief, creative blocks, and life transitions.
A distinctive feature of Margarian's practice is her specialization in cross-cultural psychology. She maintains a keen scholarly and clinical interest in the emergence of psychotherapeutic practices in China and Hong Kong, and has published research on somatic countertransference across cultural contexts. Her work with culturally diverse patients and those experiencing cultural displacement reflects an integrative approach that honors both the universality of the individuation process and the particularities of cultural experience. She is available for sessions both in-person at her Annandale consulting room and via telehealth through Jungian Online.
